As long promised there will be some changes coming very soon - I'm putting the finishing touches on a new forum layout, as well as a few fun little toys.

I'm also going to make some changes to the back-end - I've been eyeing up a new server and I'll fix the annoying network issues that require me to manually restart the modem every 24 hours.

Since I'll have plenty free time in August I'm going to wait until I have time to do this all in one big hit, but thought I should let you know whats coming!

Time for a new round of ideas and suggestions, heres whats on my wish list:

- More mods
- Chat?
- Some sort of photo gallery/upload function (like http://chevereto.com/)
- vB (http://www.vbulletin.com/)

I still haven't fully implemented my insane plane to rip the site to shreds on the server side (having Apache and mySQL on seperate boxes, then working out what the load is like on each, and finetuning the virtual machines to cope). I'll also be looking at options for advertising and spreading the word about the site to get more people posting - might be a job for Daves Wink

For a change Wink

I've decided that I will upgrade the forum software to vBulletin and reopening the registrations (its currently manual - ugh).

If the internet debacle causes any problems I'll be moving the whole lot onto virtual hosting - we may have a few days up to a week of outages, but at least it'll work.

I also have one more little surprise coming that I think you'll all like Wink

News: This and That

After just over a year has passed since moving into my current address the building 組合 have informed me that my internet connection was not approved and its to be disconnected. I'll be disputing this (12 months have passed without comment, I was told that this was possible and it was a condition of me signing the contract, and the line was installed with the full knowledge of the management company and the building 管理人).

For the time being new account signups has been disabled.

There are some other issues which may mean we have to move out - at the very least we will not be renewing the contract if we are required to pay (due to other disputes regarding the apartment). This might prove to be the straw that breaks my sanity and I'm looking at my options for moving back to Australia in the next 10 months.

So don't be too surprised if Expat goes down sometime in the near future and doesn't come back Evil or Very Mad
