返り血を浴びる
I know what it means, at least I think I do, but how is it used, can it be use like "backfire" in English?
Thanks

I see it more like "cleaning up the mess" but especially after some kind of victory.
Can't think of a direct phrase at the moment, but I'm sure there is...

Getting splattered with blood from a gushing wound on someone and that you caused that wound.

I like that one, usually used in political connotations as far as I can see. _________________ "My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income."

Goo dictionaries offers this:
| Quote: |
犯人は被害者の返り血を浴びていた
The criminal's clothes were stained with the blood of the victim. |
I'd translate this as, "The criminal was drenched in the victim's blood." _________________ The better you look, the more you see. |

How about this:
N'er did the foul fiend escape the deadly repast of his most nefarious and bloody deeds.
